American elegance at its best in these five great hotels in New York:

Great hotels are a major part of the New York City experience (The Peninsula hotel)

New York is one of those compelling destinations, which many people long to visit and are excited to experience. It is one city, but there are millions of experiences, which make the city a realm of infinite encounters with culture. Equally as important to one’s outside adventures are the inside undertakings as well. This means choosing a good place to relax and enjoy our leisure time is crucial to our enjoyable participation in the infinite delights of this unique city. The creative energy of so many people in one place makes for an eclectic gathering of lodging options. In New York one will always have plenty of options and some to spare, especially when it comes to places to stay. Things are pricier here than elsewhere, but it does not necessarily mean that as more you pay the nicer your accommodations will be. Location and luxury are not always found together. This is home to all types of demographics, from simple stays, to business stays to a high demand market.

Any list of hotels in these categories could fill books, but for our purposes we would like to present five places that exhibit the finest qualities of American elegance set in the demanding boundaries of both location and luxury. That’s not all, there are many hotels in New York, which meet these qualifications, so to add to the excitement we’ve selected accommodations, which also offer unique experiences of the city.  These hotels stand out for their exceptional qualities and unique personalities. New York is a city made up of millions of experiences, but ultimately one must choose something, so why not consider a place that boldly distinguishes itself from all the rest?

The Jumeira Essex House:

This hotel might not sound like a familiar luxury brand in the U.S. but it is a highly acclaimed brand worldwide. The group began in the United Arabic Emirates and today hosts many award-winning properties. The New York branch is no exception to that method. What might be more familiar to most is the location of this hotel. Many might be surprised to know that this palatial refuge occupies the famous Essex House whose domineering shadow falls over Central Park and whose iconic name in lights makes up an integral part of the downtown skyline. The promise of a unique stay is assured right away by their direct and appropriate motto: “Stay Different.” Indeed a stay here will transport you to a world of different experiences, all of them being pleasant. Here one is just minutes from the shopping of 5th avenue, the tranquility of Central Park and the stimulating excitement of Broadway. The ability to quickly move from an experience of the city at ground level to take it all in with lofty panoramas is sensational.  Experience the best of Manhattan or Central Park with your room view depending on which type of scenery you prefer. Rooms are furnished in an art deco style that inspires a sense of elegance and serenity all at once. The hotel is a stylish place that does not cease to impress. There is a strong drive towards innovation and attention to individual needs among the staff and management as well. If the city has gotten the best of you, never fear your charming oasis waits with wellsprings of rejuvenation at the intimate hotel spa and leisure facility.  For modern American gastronomic finesse be sure and explore South Gate for a range of savory delights. The Jumeira Essex House is a property that creatively and efficiently responds to the high demand of New York’s demanding hotel industry.

The Pierre by Taj:

The magnificent luxury of the Pierre

The Pierre by Taj comes from a chain, which is highly respected for its standard of luxury worldwide, but may not be so well known in the United States. Taj is synonymous with sprawling luxury and refined hotelier taste. It is no wonder then that such a grand brand should wish to grace New York with a demonstration of its accommodation prowess. Set in the heart of midtown Manhattan and adjacent to the borders of lush Central Park, this hotel combines a timeless sense of luxury with the modern pace of New York’s business and leisure demands. Since the takeover of this property by the Taj chain in 2005, a major overhaul has elevated the already iconic settings to the upper levels of gentlemanly European elegance. The hotel offers 189 guest rooms of which 38 are suites and 11 grand suites.  All the rooms are decidedly bright, airy and elaborate. Views are of course indispensably linked with the tower like structure and much of Manhattan and Central Park are yours to survey with a single glance. No danger in being overlooked here, the concierge service is second to none as a super attentive and friendly staff are faithfully standing by to assist you. The quality of amenities certainly lives up to the grandeur and glory of this majestic marvel. The Jiva Spa is a place to experience unique relaxation and rejuvenation with classic Indian treatments.  Larger spaces like the Grand Ballroom, Regency Room and Wedgwood Room offer generous spaces for any type of business or leisure in the most ornate settings. Le Caprice is the culinary showcase wherein one can delight in savory meals with excellence and charm as part of the main course. Overall the Taj is a destination with specific charm that offers a unique blend of personalized service and luxurious comforts all served with a passion for elegance.

The Chatwal:

I have to start by stating the obvious: The Chatwal is a fantastic hotel. The feeling when you are a guest there is that someone who loves their job is working here. And that someone wants to do things right. Location is the first plus in this property, it is just steps away from Broadway, Times Square and Bryant Park. But being so close to all these popular attractions one would think it to be susceptible to noise problems. This is certainly not the case in the Chatwal, the hotel has managed to become an oasis of tranquility and refined luxury in the middle of all the action. It is a small hotel with only 76 rooms, several of which are suites. The building that occupies the hotel has been restored with magnificent success, bringing back all the original glamor of the years when it was the home of the Lambs, a theatrical club. The restaurant still keeps the name of the prestigious Lambs club, it serves excellent culinary options in a relaxed ambiance, it is a refined dining restaurant that counts on the collaborations of such prestigious chefs as the Michelin award wining Geoffrey Zakarian. This is quite a popular breakfast restaurant for locals on the way to their job or for a business man who wants to host an informal meeting. The reception is a place of elegance and it serves as a perfect transition from the noise of the city to the peace of this personalized hotel. On the second floor is located the Lamb’s bar, it offers an excellent atmosphere with a great view of the historic buildings on the famous 44th street.

Many city hotels sacrifice having full leisure facilities, this is not the case with the Chatwal a place that seems to do everything right and with style. The Spa by Kashemere is a great place to find physical and interior peace. It offers excellent facilities for in house guests only, such as treatment rooms, steam room,  fitness center, relaxation lounge and a saltwater lap pool.  The rooms are certainly amazing, designed with great taste in keeping with the theme of New York style art deco,  lots of light and signature beds. Bathrooms are really impressive with a great color scheme and amenities.

The Chatwal is an excellent hotel for business or leisure. Here one gets an amazing location but does not have to sacrifice anything as regards comfort. Actually this is a hotel that has set its standards very high and they are succeeding in offering to their guests the often dreamed of New York experience in style.

The Peninsula:

The West Terrace of the Peninsula Hotel

This is a hotel that stands out by itself. A place of true luxury and personalized service. Sitting on a great location on the corner of 5th  avenue and 55th street. It has been the recipient of numerous awards that are deserved. It underwent a recent multimillion dollar renovation that has brought an even higher range of standards to the historic building of 21 floors. The reception offers a preview of an amazing experience, from there one is transported to a very well appointed room, where colors and decorations have carefully been chosen, Even the smaller rooms are very spacious and offer excellent amenities. If one is all about well being, the Spa at the Peninsula is the place to be.

The Hotel is proud to offer amazing epicurean experiences. Five is an elegant American Cuisine restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Gotham lounge is the place where the famous afternoon tea is served daily. A very unique place, bringing a great experience of the true New Yorker lifestyle is Saloon de Ning. It is an intimate bar with two outdoor terraces. This is a place to be at night if you want to enjoy great ambiance with stunning views of Manhattan. Saloon de Ning is open to outside guests and it is really a must visit for any visitor that wants to enjoy some drinks in style or spend a great night with friends. Probably for those coming to do luxurious shopping in the big Apple there is not a better place to stay than in the Peninsula, it is very close to all the most exclusive stores. Peninsula Hotels are very well known for their standards of hospitality around the world. Their hotel in New York lives up to all expectations, it is the perfect place to enjoy a great stay in a beautiful location. It is an amazingly good call for those who want to be pampered and as well it is an excellent place for those who want to enjoy a truly great New York experience.

The Four Seasons:

The first thing that I can say right about Four Seasons hotel: All their properties are truly amazing. These hotels are destinations in themselves. Four seasons hotels have been able to take care of the smallest details in their hotels with such diverse locations such Damascus in Syria or Uruguay. They are truly going beyond expectations and when they decide to open a new hotel, anyone can easily expect to see the very best there. Their New York Hotel is not an exception, it is a fantastic property, located on 57th street between Park and Madison. It is the tallest of the luxury hotels in Manhattan with 52 floors and 368 rooms. To step into the Four Seasons is to enter in an oasis of luxury, tranquility and great care. The rooms offer generous space, with outstanding decorations and many have impressive views of the skyline or Central Park. The hotel offers the largest standard rooms in the city. The rooms allow for abundant portions of sunlight and the all marble bathrooms are a perfect complement for such a great room. Guests can relax in the steam bath, the whirlpool or the pool and then can take one of the many treatment options offered in the Spa. For those looking for an excellent restaurant, the Four Seasons is the place to be, it is the home of L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, this is a two Michelin star restaurant, this is part of what makes him the only chef in the world to hold a record of 27 Michelin stars. There are other very good dinning options too. This hotel is one that knows how to combine sophistication, elegance and service with great class to truly please their guests.

Architects and interior designers did a great job on this place, among all the people who worked on this hotel the well known Pietro Marino especially stands out. He was involved in the interior designing of several suites and even this was a treat as he rarely gets involved in hotel projects.  As a matter for curiosity the Fours Seasons New York offers the most expensive rate in the world for a room. It is the Ty Warner Penthouse which goes for the nice price of 35, 000 USD per night (please do not forget that this does not include the city tax!)
